The 12 Step Upholstery Cleaning Program
Step 1: Pre-Inspection
The content and composition of your fabric will determine what type of cleaning solutions and techniques will be used. We also point out any potential permanent stains or areas of concern before starting work.
Step 2: Area Preparation
The area where the upholstery will be cleaned is prepared to protect your surrounding areas.
Step 3: Pre-Groom
The fabric will be gently groomed using soft brushes or towels to break the surface tension on the fabrics and loosen dander, hair and general soiling for cleaning.
Step 4: Pre-Vacuum
Over two-thirds of soil on upholstery is dry soil. The grooming and vacuuming remove harmful dry soils and any loose particles from the cracks and crevices.
Step 5: Pre-Treat/Shampoo
Depending on your fabric, a special solution designed for your fabric type and the soiling condition will be applied to emulsify the soil. On most fabrics, this can be done using a foam shampoo and a natural horse-hair brush. *Certain fabrics must be cleaned using dry cleaning solvents. In this case Steps 5-7 are not included*.
Step 6: Pre-Spot
Any potentially difficult spots will be pre-treated with special solutions to increase chances of removal before extracting.
Step 7: Soil Extraction and Rinse/Neutralize
The soil is extracted from the fabric with a gentle, controlled rinse. The fabric is pH balanced to maintain its soft, fresh feel. This step also ensures no soapy residue will be left behind.
Step 8: Post-Spot
Any remaining spots will be treated with special stain removal products. Some stains are permanent and we attempt spot removal only up to the point before risking color loss or fiber distortion.
Step 9: Fabric Protector
As an additional option, a fiber sealant can be applied that makes your upholstery last longer by providing a barrier against dry soil, spots and spills. It is not impenetrable, but is the best way to protect your valuable investment.
Step 10: Post-Groom
Fabrics with pile (such as velvet) will be gently combed with a special fabric brush.
Step 11: Speed Dry
High velocity air movers are placed on the upholstery to speed dry the fabric.
Step 12: Post-Cleaning Inspection
Our technician will review the cleaning results with you to ensure that your expectations have been met or exceeded.
