Oriental and Area Rug Cleaning
Step 1: Pre-inspection
We will determine as much as we possibly can about the type of rug and inherent qualities that may affect cleaning. We will outline the expected results and cleaning prescription. Prior to cleaning, rugs susceptible to bleeding are tested for colorfastness.
Step 2: Dry Soil Removal
Woven rugs, especially hand knotted rugs are exceptional at hiding dry soil. A few years ago, the Eureka company did a study and found that a 9×12 rug could hide 85 pounds of dirt without looking visibly dirty. We use techniques to thoroughly dust and pre-vacuum the rugs before cleaning.
Step 3: Pre-Spot and Fringe Preparation
Any potentially difficult spots will be pre-treated with special solutions to increase chances of removal. The fringe is also pre-treated for best results. If there is urine in the rug, this is when the rug is treated for urine soiling.
Step 4: Shampoo/Pre-Treatment
Most rugs are cleaned with an oriental rug shampoo that is specially designed for maximum soil removal while protecting sensitive natural fibers.
Step 5: Rinse/Neutralize
After the rug has been cleaned, it is thoroughly rinsed with extraction equipment to remove all water-soluble contaminates and cleaning agents. The rug is neutralized to balance the pH levels of the fibers.
Step 6: Fiber Protection
An additional option, a fiber protector can be applied to the rug. The fiber protector dries clear, odorless, and provides an additional layer of protection to help protect your rug from soils and stains.
Step 7: Speed Dry
Once the soil is rinsed away, the rug is then speed dried using high speed air movers.
Step 8: Finishing
When your rug is clean, it is combed and finished with a soft groomer made for specialty rugs.
Step 9: Post-Inspection
Once finished, our technician will do a walk through with you to show the results.
*Some rugs may require low-moisture cleaning (different process from above). If this is the case, the technician will consult with you during Step 1.
